Power Learning: Using “Low Mistake Fear” Retrieval Strategies to Boost Student Engagement, Comprehension and Collaborative Discourse

Disheartened by your students’ lack of interest, motivation and participation? Learning starts with the brain, and the moment of engagement is a critical part of the learning process. In this interactive, experiential training, you’ll be empowered with knowledge, skills and strategies about the impact of stress on learning and how the brain learns and responds. You’ll discover how to get “more” out of your students by using quick, “low stress” learning-focused retrieval strategies which are immediately transferable to your classroom to maximize student engagement, participation and retention while promoting collaborative peer discussions to support content learning and critical thinking.

From Executive Dysfunction to Executive Function: Developing Metacognitive, Empowered Learners

Looking for ways to help your disorganized, easily distracted and careless students become more efficient and productive? How about those who have difficulty getting started, fall apart when they encounter obstacles, or avoid challenges?

In this experiential training, you’ll learn how to use your daily subject matter to foster metacognitive, empowered learners. This workshop provides strategies to decrease stress and build underdeveloped skill sets and mindsets vital to learning and success in school, relationships, jobs and life—all without sacrificing too much instructional time. We will address key information about the brain and the impact of stress on Executive Function as well as how to support students with transitions and routines and the development of skills related to goal setting, organization, time management, self-monitoring, cognitive flexibility, and growth mindset self-talk.

When Stress Goes Up, Learning Goes Down

The impact of stress has far-reaching consequences in the classroom, affecting behavior, ability and receptivity to learning. With the spike in anxiety in children and teens, teachers need to be equipped with key information and quick strategies to decrease stress and help anxious students face their fears. When you give anxiety what it needs—not what it wants—you can spend more time on instruction, less time dealing with behavior issues and cultivate an environment where students stress less, think better and learn more.

Using A.B.C. Worry Free as a reference tool, we will address misunderstandings about anxiety and learn:

    • How anxiety works
    • Patterns of anxiety and how to interrupt them
    • An actionable strategy to manage stressors such as anxiety, frustration or anger
    • Communication, accommodation and skill building tips for the classroom

What Do We Do?

Finally. Professional Development you can use immediately in your classroom! We embed our trainings with Neuroscience findings every administrator and teacher need to know and combine them with simple, interactive, user-friendly strategies to decrease stress and boost engagement, learning and performance. Our research based, results-driven trainings fill a void in Professional Development.

We empower teachers with quick and effective strategies to positively cultivate and influence the learning environment. Our trainings help teachers meet the challenges of today’s ever changing classrooms, align with goals from the Partnership for 21st Century Skills and build social-emotional learning skills to better prepare students for success in school, relationships, careers and life.

Why Does It Work?

Emotion and learning are interconnected. To meet students’ learning needs, their emotional needs must be addressed or learning will be compromised. Science has proven that stress is one of the biggest inhibitors to learning, yet many educators aren’t using this to their advantage.

We equip teachers with information and strategies that support them in designing educational experiences and using instructional practices that decrease stress and align with how the brain likes to learn.

Strategies used in Neuro Noel Consulting™ workshops can increase student performance 8-20%. Think of the impact an average 14% increase in performance could have on your classroom and school. Making slight tweaks in lesson design, instruction, feedback and informal assessments can help maximize students’ brain function, learning potential, behavior and performance.

How Can We Help?

We understand the value of teachers’ time. All information and strategies in our trainings are relevant, timely and immediately transferable to the classroom. Throughout our trainings, teachers interact collaboratively with their colleagues, receive immediate feedback and develop a repertoire of simple, quick, learning-focused strategies to decrease behavior problems, “re-teaching,” and repeating directions while maximizing students’:

• Attention, focus, processing and memory
• Metacognitive and critical thinking
• Executive Functions
• Growth Mindset
• Participation and academic risk taking
• Communication and collaboration
• Emotional and social intelligence
• Mindfulness

Teachers build brains everyday in every classroom, playing critical roles in developing students’ cognitive, emotional and social skills and impacting their lives long after they leave the classroom. We help teachers increase the quality of their instructional methods so they can better reach and teach diverse learners. Let us show you HOW to cultivate positive environments where students are motivated and engaged in the learning process and become metacognitive, critical, independent learners and thinkers in school and life.
